A newly installed McQuaid Engineering RB42S Rock Breaker Boom System is increasing aggregate production while cutting out down time and costly maintenance at SECA quarry in Corsica.

SECA is one of the largest Granite quarries on the Island, extracting and producing around 500,000 tons of aggregate.

At the quarry blasted materials are being loaded onto CAT dumpers by a 65ton CAT excavator, then taken to a big stationary hopper. Raw material is being screened at 0/80mm by a static METSO C125 jaw crusher (1250 x 1000mm feed opening). This crushed stone is then screened and crushed several times to make final saleable aggregates.

The quarry were experiencing problems with stones building up, making a bridge inside the feeding hopper and larger stones blocking the top of the primary jaw crusher. The customer had an old boom installed that they wanted to change to as it was too old, too light and could not reach the middle of the inside jaws.

Our distributor worked closely with our boom team and the team on the ground at SECA to establish the best solution for their needs. Having looked at the parameters of the job they determined that our RB42S was the correct boom system for the job.

The RB42S has a max horizontal reach of 5.7 meters, a vertical reach of 4.2 meters, and 320° rotation. One of our medium duty range of booms, the RB42 series booms are typically mounted over the mouth of a primary crusher. The boom system enables the breaker to reach into the mouth of the crusher, reducing oversized boulders as well as clearing any blockages in the hopper.
